LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Baseball Head Coach Barry Davis has announced the written commitment of another student-athlete for the 2017-18 academic year. Left-handed pitcher Joe Papeo (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge High School) has signed his NLI and will join the Broncs for the 2018 season.

Papeo is part of strong incoming group of hurlers joining Ray Pacella, Vincent Vitacco and Zac Gakeler, who is junior college transfer. The quartet of pitchers will look to make an immediate impact for the Broncs.

“Joe will add to a growing list of new pitchers coming this fall,” Davis added. “He is a young senior with a great deal of upside. We expect him to push for playing time right away and bolster an underachieving pitching staff.”

During his career at Old Bridge High School, Papeo amassed a 1.90 ERA in 99.1 innings of work. He went 8-6 with 91 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.61. Papeo was also named his team's MVP following the 2016 season and he was selected to the underclassmen all-star game as well in 2016. His was a key cog on a team that 2015 Central Jersey Group 4 State Championship.
