Rider’s Thompsons Honored by CollegeInsider.com

Jason All-America, Ryan All-Mid-Major

Ringgold Mid Major All-Freshman Team

 

LAWRENCEVILLE—Jason and Ryan Thompson of the Rider University basketball team were honored by CollegeInsider.com.  Jason, a 6’11”, 245 pound senior forward, was named to the All-America team, while Ryan, a 6’6” sophomore guard, was named to the All-Mid-Major team.

 

Freshman Mike Ringgold (Philadelphia, PA) was named to the Mid-Major All-Freshman team. 

 

Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape High) was the US Basketball Writers’ Association District II Player of the Year and a National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 3 selection. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, J. Thompson was also the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year this season for the second time.

 

Jason was also named to the Associated Press All-America honorable mention. 

 

J. Thompson ranks second in the nation in rebounding (12.1), 18th in blocked shots (2.7), 29th in scoring (20.4) and 36th in field goal percentage (.560), and is one of just 96 Division I players EVER to compile BOTH 2,000 career points (2,040) and 1,000 career rebounds (1,171).

 

R. Thompson earned Second Team All-MAAC honors and ranks 57th in the nation in field goal percentage (.537).  In the MAAC R. Thompson ranked eighth in scoring (15.0), 10th in rebounding (6.2), eighth in field goal percentage (.537), ninth in assists (3.44), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.438), fifth in steals (1.66), 11th in free throw percentage (.746), eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.36), eighth in minutes played (33.94).

 

The Thompsons led Rider to a best-ever 23 wins and to the MAAC Championship Game after finishing in first place in the MAAC regular season.
