Rider Signs Lightbourne

LAWRENCEVILLE—Shereen Lightbourne from Elmsford, New York has signed a national letter of intent to further her education and athletic career at Rider University, Bronc head coach Lynn Milligan announced today.

"We are very excited to find a player of Shereen's caliber in the late signing period,” said Milligan.  “Shereen was under the radar for most of her junior year (due to an injury) and we feel that we have a found that 'diamond in a rough' player."

Lightbourne, a senior at Alexander Hamilton High School, averaged 18.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, earning Third Team All-New York All-Section 1 honors.

A 5-11 guard, Lightbourne was a 1,000 point scorer and team co-captain.

“She can play either guard spot as well as the small forward in a pinch,” Milligan added.  “Her versatility to play different positions as well as her athleticism will have her in the mix for playing time immediately.  We are very happy to have Shereen join the Rider family"

Lightbourne joins Carleigh Brown, Cailin Bopp and Dior Brown who signed NLIs in November as members of the Rider University Class of 2013.

Carleigh Brown is a 6-1 forward from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Nazareth Academy), Bopp is a 6-2 forward/center from Baltimore, Maryland (Institute of Notre Dame) and Dior Brown is a 5-7 guard from Upper Darby, Pennsylvania (Upper Darby Senior High School).

The Broncs return 10 letterwinners from a team that posted its highest win total since the 1999-2000 season.

Rider opens the 2009-10 schedule, hosting Seton Hall out of the BIG EAST on November 13.
