Rider at Armory Collegiate Challenge
NEW YORK, NY-Rider will be taking two more athletes to Boston next week for the Eastern Championships.
Several Broncs competed at the Armory Collegiate Challenge Thursday, a 'last chance' meet to give athletes one more opportunity to qualify, the men for the IC4A Championships and the women for the ECAC Championships.
"We took some of the athletes who were close to qualifying to give them one more opportunity and others who already qualified, to improve upon their times or just sharpen up for next week," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer.
For Rider, junior Dave Brown (Ewing) and sophomore Joseph Carlin (Staten Island, N.Y./McKee) will join one of the largest contingents in program history to travel to Boston next weekend. "They both came through very nicely for us today," Hamer said. "I'm excited about that."
Brown finished second in the 500m with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:03.82.
Carlin placed fourth in the 800m with a qualifying time of 1:54.15.
For the women junior Mia Riley (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) placed fourth in the 60m (7.82) and fourth in the 200m (24.35).
"Mia ran two really nice races," Hamer said. "She came close to breaking the team record again in the 200 and came close to qualifying for the ECACs in the 60. She's disappointed that she did not get the qualifying time but she had a great season. She came here and competed very well and represented herself in fine fashion. We're excited about her progress this year."
Also for the Rider men junior Perry Asare (Lindenwood) won the triple jump (14.20m). Junior Sean Donohue (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) placed third in the 3,000m (8:37.63), junior David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton) placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.26), junior James Burroughs (West Orange) placed fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.29), freshman Jonathan Galya (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) placed fifth in the high jump (1.93m), sophomore Steven Brown (Penns Grove) placed fourth in the long jump (6.81m), sophomore Wilvenson Baptiste (Irvington) placed fifth in the 200m (22.28) and freshman Anthony Dentino (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was eighth in the 3,000m (8:42.44).
