Giovagnoli, Peterson Athletes of Month - February, 2012

Heather Giovagnoli of the indoor track & field team and Drew Peterson of the swimming & diving team, were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in February.

Giovagnoli, a senior from Royersford, Pa. (Spring Ford), set three team records last month, qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in two events, and picked up a third, fourth and fifth place finish at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships.

Peterson, a freshman from Boulder City, Nev. (Boulder City), set three Rider records in February and led Rider to the MAAC Championship as the team's leader in points.

At the ECAC Championships Peterson qualified for the US Olympic Trials in the 200 individual medley. At the MAAC championships Peterson swam on four gold medal winning relays.

He set the team record in the 500 freestyle, the 400 individual medley and swam on the record-setting 800 free relay.

Giovagnoli ran a sub-five minute mile at both the MAAC Championships and the ECAC Championships, while setting Rider records in the 1000 meters and the sprint medley relay, as well as the mile.
