BETHLEHEM, PA –
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) won at No. 5 singles and
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) and
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) paired on a No. 1 doubles win, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell at Lehigh, 6-1, on Sunday. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 1-5, while the Mountain Hawks are now 1-1.
Brown and Naves took a 6-3 win over Hamsa Javagal and Alina Shyani at No. 1 doubles. But the Mountain Hawks took wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the point.
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt) and Monachelli battled at No. 3, but fell to Ronit Khromchenko and Audrey Harrington, 6-4.
Monachelli earned an 8-5 victory over Hannah Letzer at No. 5. But the Mountain Hawks took the remaining five singles flights to earn the 6-1 win. Buss took a set from Javagal at No. 2, but fell, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The Broncs return to action Saturday, Feb. 22, when they travel to Sacred Heart to open MAAC play. First serve is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
