WEST POINT, NY –
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) won at No. 2 singles and also won at top doubles with Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland), but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Army West Point, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-2 on the year, while the Black Knights are now 2-1.
Tangri and Slattery paired on a 6-4 win over Marcus Sebastian and Paul Roberts at No. 1 doubles. However, the Black Knights took the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 2 and a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
In singles, Tangri made quick work of Michael Zhang, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. However, the Black Knights would take the remaining five singles flights and a 6-1 victory.
Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy/Marco Polo) fell in three sets at No. 6 to Daniel Choi, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5, while
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain IES Jaume Balmes) also played a tight match with Roberts at No. 4, falling, 7-6, 7-5.
The Broncs return to action Friday, Jan. 27, when they travel to NJIT. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
